At least, that’s what some people seem to believe. Want to believe, that is.

On our venerable national radiostation a Dutch correspondent in China told as much when he stated that the current oppression might just be the only way that one can keep such a huge country, i.e. such a huge population, under control.

Apparently, he was under the impression that if you have a country with a lot of people, these people will naturally tend to do something very disruptive. After all, China has many different ethnic groups, and they might just start killing each other off or something if you untie the rope, let them too loosely enjoy their civil liberties.

What seems to have been working, at least such is the consensus, without (again the consensus) much official suppression in equally huge and/or densely populated countries like Brazil, India, the United States, Japan, and others, will for some reason not work in China.

Now it could be a very painful question to ask ourselves if that is really the case.

Maybe we would have to acknowledge that we don’t want the Chinese to have any civil liberties, because we want them to shut up and work. We don’t want them to dabble in political movements, that might jeopardise their productivity. They are to produce our shoes, clothes, furniture, steel, PCs, laptops, iPods and all the other crap that costs so relatively little, for low wages, in bad conditions, and working long hours.

They have to smile at us while we’re enjoying the Olympics on tv, and they have to realise that the fact they have a g***amn job in the first place is thanks to our magnificent purchasing power.

We don’t want the Chinese to ask for democracy, because they might choose to improve working conditions and wages, and we would have to pay more for just about everything that has Made in PRC on it. We don’t want them to confront us with the bankruptcy and profound corruption of the globalised economy, because we’ve been brainwashed into believing that it is in a magic way "inevitable". We certainly do not want the Chinese to protest to their government the widespread destruction of the environment, because we’re more than happy to have got rid of our own dirty heavy industries. We’ve had our rivers be labeled sewers in the past, we cleaned up a bit, now it’s their problem.

And you know, probably the Chinese government is right, say, these Falun Gong sect people might just be very dangerous loonies. Sure, they sort of meditate in the streets, that’s all, and they get killed for it in jail and their organs are sold for a few hundred grand, but you never know these days, war on terror and all, maybe they did deserve it. And you know, even Tibet would probably turn into chaos just as well without the Chinese military creating some kind of order over there.

No, the Chinese do not need democracy.

De lieden die het echt voor het zeggen hebben in de VS, en ik zou daar types als Cheney en Rumsfeld (wat spookt die nu ook al weer uit) onder rekenen, zijn slim genoeg om de aandacht van de dood en verderf die ze wereldwijd zaaien te laten afleiden door de stompzinnigheid van een oetlul als Bush. Zodat we maar gaan denken dat hun misdaden niet opzettelijk (wat het geval is) maar ach, per ongeluk worden begaan.

Oeps, Irak binnengevallen en geen "plan" voor na de overwinning! Foutje!

De afwezigheid van dat "plan" is echter het plan zelf.

Door Peak Oil zijn contracten niet meer genoeg, de olie moet fysiek worden bewaakt. Vandaar dat chaos in Irak en Afghanistan voor de lange termijn verzekerd moet zijn, zodat noch Toos Clinton, noch handsome Obama het leger ooit wegkrijgen uit die landen, zelfs als ze het zouden willen (als de democratie in de VS niet per decreet wordt afgeschaft door de noodtoestand uit te roepen, althans. Ik zie het nog wel gebeuren: de wettelijke basis voor een succesvolle effectieve staatsgreep is gelegd. Het steeds maar weer manipuleren van verkiezingen gaat ook vervelen, laten we maar zeggen).

Alle tijd die dus besteed wordt aan Bush’ slechte humor, afwezigheid van elk historisch besef, en volmaakte schaamteloosheid, wordt niet besteed aan de ontmaskering van de grootste verzameling mafiosi die het Witte Huis, het Pentagon en het State Department ooit hebben gezien. De boodschap van Bush met zijn gezwam over Iran en WO3 is louter bedoeld als meme quote voor Fox en CNN, zodat mensen alvast gaan wennen aan het idee dat ook het platgooien van Iran helemaal niet zo absurd is als we altijd hadden gedacht.
